Steve Pereira

Program Lead

Steve is a retired consultant. He had his own company, Certified Systems, for 30 years. Providing design, installation, monitoring and servicing of both fire alarms and electronic security systems. The company was based in Chico, California and primarily served Northern California with limited services in 12 other states. Steve’s service in the US Navy included two tours of duty in Vietnam (1969-1971) on the Riverine Force. He finally saw sea duty after the war on the Harlen R. Dickson DD743 out of Boston, Massachusetts and the USS Alamo, LSD 33 based out of San Diego, CA. Steve received his electronic training while serving in the US Navy as an Interior Communications Electrician, Petty Officer 3rd Class.

Steve started out as a volunteer with Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing in the Chico program in 2013. After years of encouragement from his fellow veterans he went back to the VA and received his disability rating. During COVID he became acquainted with the Redding program. Wanting to be a participant and feeling a real affinity with the Redding program he decided that is where he belonged. He proudly serves as Program Lead for Hooked on Healing (HOH).

Ron Saiki

Ron is a retired architect who worked for several architectural firms in the San Francisco Bay Area and for Stanford University in the Construction Project Management Group. He relocated to Redding in 2010.

Ron served in the US Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer aboard two ships. First, a gas oiler, AOG 56 in the Vietnam campaign followed by operations on the US east coast and in the Mediterranean. His second tour was on an ocean-going minesweeper, MSO 509 homeported in Charleston, South Carolina, and operating along the southern east coast.

Ron was one of the volunteers who was involved with the start-up of the Redding Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing program in 2012 and currently serves as the Assistant Program lead for Hooked on Healing. Being a volunteer in retirement and providing fly fishing knowledge while supporting recovery is a way of giving back to those who served.
